So you want to be a real estate auctioneer? Here’s everything you need to know about the best auctioneer course Melbourne and Sydney agents have access to.

Competing for a property through open bidding is one of the most effective ways to sell a residential or commercial property.

To be a successful real estate auctioneer, there are a few skills you need. One of them is speaking confidently in front of a large group of people. An entertainer mindset is also useful, as generating excitement and keeping potential buyers interested is essential. Reading body language is important too, as it ensures you understand the dynamic among bidders – as well as predicting their interest in the property.

However, the best real estate auctioneers rely on a wide range of skills, most of which are best learned through completing a nationally recognised auctioneer course. If you live in NSW, the government requirement is completion of the Auctioneer Accreditation course.

The auctioneer course is composed of three units of study taken from Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419). To be eligible to enrol in this course in NSW, you must hold a Real Estate Licence (Class 2), or have completed 15 units of the CPP41419 certificate course.

The three units cover the pre-auction process, conducting the sale by auction, and completing the post-auction process including properly executing the contract of sale.

During the course we focus on the practical components of running an auction including displaying a home for auction. The course also addresses the legal requirements of an auction from setting up on the day to closing the sale.

On completion of the course, you should have the knowledge and skills required to conduct an auction that both achieves a successful sale and meets legislative requirements. To help you achieve this, we run two mock auctions during the auctioneering course.

  • CPPREP4163 – Complete post-auction process and contract execution
You’re always a step ahead if you’ve done formal study in the area of real estate you choose to work in. You can’t gain 100% of the expertise you need from experience alone.

In Victoria, there are no licensing requirements to work as an auctioneer, but completing the three units of study will expand your knowledge of the auction process, enable you to communicate better with your clients, and provide depth and scope to your role as an auctioneer. You’ll also gain clarity around the legal processes involved in selling by auction.

Completing the auctioneer course in NSW is mandated as part of registering to be an accredited auctioneer with NSW Fair Trading. It is against the law in NSW to conduct an auction without being a licensed agent accredited to act as an auctioneer. This accreditation will also equip you with the knowledge and skills you need, and enhance your reputation as an auctioneer.

To be eligible to enrol in this course in NSW, you must hold a Real Estate Licence (Class 2), or have completed 15 units of the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice CPP41419 certificate course.

You must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) in order to receive a qualification.
